In 1941 Elder (pastor) James P. Kellis and his
wife, Christine were moved by God to build a church in Spencer, Oklahoma. The name of the
church was the First Church of God in Christ. Elder Kellis remained pastor of the church
until his death in 1967.
Elder Howard Huggins was called to pastor the flock
and soon he began a remodeling project, assisted by his wife and others such as Rex
Wilson, Alvin Oliver, Mayola Turner, Bernice Smallwood and mother Gussie Flynn. In 1973
pastor Huggins was appointed pastor of another congregation and Elder Howard Q. Jones was
assigned the pastor of First Church. Pastor Jones remained the pastor until his death in
2003.
At that time, God saw fit to elevate Elder Gilbert
Oliver to the position of pastor. Elder Oliver continues the tradition of his three
predecessors, leading by precept and example and adhereing to the doctrine of
"holiness" as detailed in the Bible (I Peter 1:13-16 and Psalms 93:5).
